Remembering Joe Strummer

Marlow kicked in the back door

and Mike had the beers

Pot smoke filled the air

and reggae was the beats

We talked music and life

and food and religion

He had a smile the size of Kansas

and was missing a tooth

When people asked him

what do you do

he said I’m a storyteller

I do it with music

and I hope I make people feel better

I’m here to entertain

make you think and move

We’re two of the same

got nothing to prove

And all I know is after a hard nights work

my feet itch like hell

and my throat is stuck

I want to make you laugh

give you an escape from this world

I know it’s not easy babe

I know how you feel

I want to make you laugh

give you a place in this world

I know it’s not easy doll

I know how you feel

So come to my show

drink then puke in the sink

Head hurts the next day

say let’s do it again

I want them to say

thanks for the good times

It was great while it lasted

you sure know how to throw a party

He gave us his soul

and let us inside

And the day he passed away

was the day the music died
