Tom and the Bütz drink sweet tea and shoot the shit. Here we go son!
Dry Ink: I hear you have a new pair of boots and a new band. Can you tell us about it? Do you have a name?
Jeffrey Bützer: Indeed. It is called Jeffrey Bützer and the Bicycle Eaters. It is me plus two to five other people including: Mark Carbone, Chad Shivers, Claire Lodge, TT Mahony and Paul Massa.
DI: Is the material a mix of new an old?
JB: Yes, we’ve reworked songs from my first two albums as well as new stuff. My idea is to bring in people to rearrange my songs as a band, to bring some new life to them.
DI: You will be making your debut with this band on the 26th of March at the Drunken Unicorn. How many songs will you play?
JB: I think we have 10-15 songs.
DI: Any plans of getting back overseas this year?
JB: I have talked to my “people” and we are working on it. I really would like to. I am about to head to Hawaii with the family, after that I can start thinking about tours.
DI: How is the new addition to the Bützer family, Francis holding up?
JB: Oh, he is doing great. He’s a great baby, he is four months old now so he is figuring out he has hands and he laughs a lot… you know what that means…time to get a job.
DI: Any plans of him joining the band soon?
JB: Well, his cello lessons are not going as well as we’d hoped. He can barely hold the bow so we might have to wait a few years.
DI: You just finished producing a record for the fantastic Claire Lodge. What is happening with that?
JB: Yeah, we made this little guitar album. It is noisy and way different from my normal thing I do. We wrote and recorded it very fast, doing live guitar and drum tracks then each of us doing one guitar overdub. It should be out at www.lona-records.com and on i-tunes within two months.
DI: What would you say are your top 10 favorite albums of all time?
JB: I can give you my top 100 of all time. This is just off the top of my head you know. They are just a few of my personal faves in order of how I’m remembering them. I’m keeping one album per artist, OK. Nothing on this list will be too new. I feel good albums have to sit with me a few years before we fall in love. Please note, this is not a list of everything I own or like. I listen to a lot of music including surf, exotica, jazz, early rockabilly, shoegaze, country, girl groups, garage and gypsy.
