Drinks at Rob’s House
Pabst and Bushmills with the founders of Rob’s House Records

On Saturday, April 7, I got together with Trey Lindsay and Travis Flagel of Rob’s House Records at their home in East Atlanta. There was a rock show going on. It was 22 degrees out. We drank PBR from a keg outside and stood around a campfire. I took sips from an old bottle of Bushmills. It helped out a bit and made my heart warm. Boys, thank you for your time.

Dry Ink: How long has the label been going now?

Trey Lindsay: Just about a year and a half. It’s going great so far.

DI: What was the original purpose of this label?

Trey: It was, still is and will always be dedicated to supporting and documenting the Atlanta music scene.

DI: How many releases have you put out?

Trey: We are now on our 27th release but we have a few more coming out over the upcoming months.

DI: How often do you have house shows here?

Trey: About once a month. We’ve recorded several of them and put them out. Today The Selmanaires and Snowden are playing.

DI: When did Travis come on board?

Trey: Travis came on at release No. 11, which was about a year ago. Like I said, the label is only a year and a half old so he’s been around for most of it.

Travis Flagel: Trey has been a pleasure to work with. We are slowly kicking ass.

DI: What do you have coming out over the next few months?

Trey: We’ve got several things coming out soon: a Cheveu 7 inch and a SIDS 7 inch are both in pre-orders now. Next month we’ll start pre-orders for a Beat Beat Beat 7 inch and a Fe Fi Fo Fums 7 inch. Then later this year we’ve got a Coathangers LP and at least three other 7 inches that are still getting ironed out.

DI: Travis, you are now the tour manager for The Black Lips. Can you talk about it?

Travis: Yes I can. The shows are going great, selling out. The Black Lips are my favorite band so I try to make decisions in their best interest. Although I don’t know how good of a manager I will be since I lost my wallet and cell phone at the drive in movie last night. My phone has all of my contacts in it.

DI: What happened?

Travis: It was freezing out and I was drunk. Things just fell out of my jacket. I started watching the movie in a Mini Cooper and when it ended I was in a minivan.

DI: Any good stories from the road?

Travis: Well I got a special kiss from a chubby girl in Philly the other night. And we got into a fight with a bunch of boys in Nashville. They were talking smack and I just said, Black Lips attack! We messed these kids up good. And now all I want to do is fight. It felt really good.

DI: Do you have any words of warning?

Travis: Yes, don’t park in my driveway!

DI: What does the future hold for Rob’s House?

Trey: We don’t have any serious long term goals other than keep putting out records. We’d like to get to a point where we can do more for smaller bands and sell more records based on Rob’s House name alone. And eventually get more into LP’s.

Travis: I would like to see it turn into a world wide fuckin’ machine. I really enjoy putting out records. We are having so much fun. Rob’s House is a big part of my life and will be around for many years. We’re just going to keep doing what we’ve always done and we’ll see what happens. I plan on putting records out on Rob’s House until the day I die!

DI: That is honest. I love it and thanks for your words.
