I walked right into a corner, I saw a girl with one leg dancing to the music. There were tiny ponies and I swear I saw a monkey. Julia Kugel steps up to the mic and says “Dreams really do come true.” These girls must have gotten a cheat sheet with my questions on it because they answered all of my questions in unison. It was pretty impressive.
Dry Ink: Thank you for doing this.
Coathangers: You got it, thank you for having us.
DI: I love that you guys say thank you so much.
CH: We appreciate anyone that appreciates us.
DI: Please introduce yourselves.
CH: Julia, vocals, guitar and handclaps. Candice, keyboards, computerized beats and spitting rhymes. Meredith, bass, balloon thrower and high heels. Stephanie, drums, gold teeth and paper bags.
DI: Can you tell me a little about this band?
CH: We are all girls.
DI: Anything else?
CH: Yes, we will fight anyone.
DI: What is your main goal with this band?
CH: There really isn’t one except I guess you can say that we are fun rock. We are having a blast. It’s all about pink balloons and a party.
DI: Congratulations on the record coming out. You girls are really doing it.
CH: We have been very lucky and we know it. We are very grateful.
DI: What shows do you have coming up?
CH: We will be in New Orleans next week and we will be playing in New York for the CMJ festival. Then we are doing our first real tour playing 20 shows in 21 days.
DI: And after that?
CH: We plan on being on the road all of next year. If a town will have us we will be there.
DI: And you will provide balloons and a party.
CH: We plan on being very busy.
DI: Have you written any new songs?
CH: We have four or five new ideas. Some are ideas for songs with words and some are just titles.
DI: Any plans of going over seas?
CH: Yes, that will happen. Hopefully next year. We want to play all over the world.
DI: Do you have any good stories that you can share with us?
CH: Nothing yet. It seems we fall down steps when we are sober and we walk fine when we are drunk.
DI: I have to say you guys throw a good party. You guys made me fall off the wagon.
CH: That is exactly what we want to be known for.
DI: Talk to me about Rob’s House Records. I love those boys.
CH: They are great. They have been very supportive. And they are getting the record in all the right places.
DI: How have the reviews been?
CH: We’ve seen some good and some bad. You will always have your lovers and haters.
DI: Who has given you a good review?
CH: We got a great review from VICE magazine. It’s good to have them on your side.
DI: Well you take the good with the bad.
CH: We’ll take it all. We are just having so much fun with this group. We don’t care what people say about us.
DI: And what is next for The Coathangers?
CH: More of the same. We will write songs, record them and play them live. We will tour and we will throw parties.
DI: What do you have to say to all of the haters?
CH: Bring it, let’s go, meet me in the parking lot.
DI: Girls, thank you for your time and keep the party going.
